launching my car

I am looking to improve my 60's. What are the best ways to launch a 5sp car, side step at high rpms, feather it, any suggestions are welcome. Car has 3.55s and slicks. I have a stage control for the ignition, and the car allways lifts on the rollout and then bogs slightly before scooting on out of the hole.

Launch at about 5000 rpm and dump the clutch. Practice, practice, practice.

I wouldn't feather your clutch unless you enjoy replacing them.

I wouldn't really side step it either. More like a "very fast" release with a very fast throttle application. Imagine you are trying to bust the tires loose on the street. I am always amazed at how much more power I can put to the ground on the track vs. the street.

Try going up in rpm by 500 rpm increments to see how your car feels launching at different engine speeds. you should be able to find an RPM that doesn't cause too much wheel spin, but doesn't result in the car bogging too much either. It'll probably be around 4500 to 5000 rpms.

That might result in more wheel spin you dont need real low gears if you got alot of HP. You just dont need the tourqe multiplying gears if you got the torque for the engine

That is a common misconception.

Actually it is the track prep and cleanliness and sticky tire compound, but not the rubber that improves the traction. Rubber on concrete has a static coefficient of friction of 1.0 (basically the highest possible without considering adhesive surfaces like velcro). Which means if you have a thousand pounds of weight over your rear tires you can apply 1000 pounds of force before they start to spin. On the other hand, rubber on rubber has a static coefficient of friction of 0.4-0.6 depending on temperature and type of rubber, which is actually much worse. That means with a 1000 pounds over the rear wheels you could only apply ~500 pounds of force before spinning the tires. However, the streets have dust and dirt on them, which makes the actual friction coefficient lower and the track has adhesive sticky stuff sprayed on it improving the friction coefficient to something like 1.5.

In other words it's the track prep and sticky stuff that makes it better, not the rubber.

What kind of slicks? How big of a burnout, do you drive through the water box? Different kinds of slicks like different burnouts and maybe you have too much water on them in the first place.

ET streets 26x10.5, 2nd gear burnout to about 70mph, they don't put that much water in the box. the water box isn't like driving through a puddle, they just spray it down and brush away the exess.

Cool, sometimes here at beech bend they dont really care on regular T&T days...I have some ET streets but havent used them yet. I was told just a quick burnot, 3-5 seconds, and they would hook all day. I dont really know though, just trying to throw out some suggestions.

went to T&T last night, I tried all the advise I got on here. and the best launches came from 4000 and a "controlled" fast clutch release

60'-1.7148
1/8-7.7230
mph-90.5
1000'-10.0827
1/4-12.0139
mph-116.81

Not bad, ALOT BETTER THAN WHAT MY PILE OF CRAP DID LAST NIGHT!!! Like people have said, you need to find what your car likes, and then keep practicing.

I got 4:10s and love them! It all depends on your setup though.
