valve spring install height for AFR 185 part# 1422

Does any one know the valve spring install height on a afr 185 cylinder head part # 1422 ?

Ive searched over on another forum, and ive read 1.8 & 1.82.

I need to see written literature that is fact and not guesses.

The reason for this is id like to have the matching springs for my custom cam. The springs i have now , i believe are the ones that cam with the heads. I emailed comp cams and gave them my cam info.....they said they needed the install height for my heads... so i emailed afr, and they have not gotton back to me. Ive tried looking at afr web page but either that info is not there or i just dont understand what im looking at...lol

I'm pretty sure they are 1.80. These are the springs that come on the 1422 head.

Are you going by memory or do you have some thing written in stone ? Are all Afr heads , have the same install height or do the vary from model # ? I wasnt sure thats why i listed the part number..

Click on the Summit link in my above thread. According to the AFR website that is the spring that comes on the 1422 head. Summit link lists installed height at 1.80.

I would get ahold of Comp & see what spring they recommond, then check the seat pressure @ installed height(1.80) and at open pressure(usually 1.20-1.23) with their recommonded spring then look up your springs and compare.

I had my springs checked against the cam specs when I had my heads off. They are the springs that came with my heads (dual spring good for 600 lift) and I have the stage 2 cam. They were right within spec.... coincidence???????

Well according to the Summit web site the Comp 987 has 121lbs seat pressure @ 1.80 installed height, 343lbs open @ 1.20 and 370lbs spring rate. The spring that come on the 1422 AFR have 135 seat pressue @ 1.80 installed height and 340lbs open pressure @ 1.23 with a 360 lbs spring rate.

I would just use the ones you have.

Good to know, i just ajusted my roller rockers and im drawing a blank if i a had dual or single springs in there but it looks like the afr springs you posted were single, so im guessing thats what i have.

Whats the difference between single and dual spring, whats the point of them ?

I also want to make sure i ajusted my rr right.

What i did was rotate the crank clock wise, as my exhaust valve starts to open, i stoped, and lossened the nut, waited less then a min to let the lifter rise back up, then i twisted the push rod until a felt a little drag, i then turned the nut one half turn ( 180 degrees) locked the nut down.

I then turned the crank, and watch the intake valve open and just as the intake valve was going to close, i ajusted the exhaust valve, the same way...

Does this sound right ?

Also depending on where i look it up some say to go either 1/4-3/4 past zero lash but i saw a you tube video that said to go one full turn, which is it, or are they both correct ?

Thank horsepowerjunki, i would have already added to your reputation but this tab im on wont let me, ill do it when i get home bro.

I'm a half turn kind of guy, and yes, your springs are close enough to be perfect.

Yeah, as long as you weren't in the overlap part of cam. Intake and exhaust can be open at the same time. Adjust your intake on end of compression stroke/start of power stroke, and your exhaust on compression stroke if you are uncertain.

Hmmmm im a little uncertain how to do that....

Also i was wondering are there two cylinders that are lined up at the same time ? What i mean by that is if im ajusting the intake valve on the number 1 cylinder ,is there another cylinders, intake valve that can be ajusted at the same time with out have to move the crank ? If so can you list the cylinders that are lined up togeather ?
