my battery gauge is reading about 9 amps , any hints? is there some sort of fuse in the charging line? |

20 or 200 VDC usually, or just VDC if it's an autorange.

What about checking the fuse links for the alternator and voltage regulator

The fuse links are at the starter soleniod.
It should be the black wire with orange stripe. What happens is the black wire with orange stripe leads over to the soleniod a long with a smaller yellow wire from the volt reg. Once the two wire are about 7 or 8 inches from the soleniod there conected to geather by afuse link, once they come out of the fuse link the wire changes color. I believe its the big fat green wire at the solenoid. So follow the green wire down about 3 inches, you will see what looks like a spliced conection....thats the fuse link, Under that fuse link you will see the black wire with orange stipe and a smaller wire running into the same fuse link, if you follow the smaller wire down another inch or two youll see another smaller fuse link. Check that one to, it for the vlot reg. The smaller wire on my car was brown, bur turns into the yellow wire i was talking about, just before in goes under the battery tray. To check these two wires you can either probe the wires on each side of the fuse link or disconect the battery and then remove the wires from the solenoid and remove the two plugs on the alternator and test from the plug ends. The yellow wire is on the second plug on the underside of the alternator and the the black wire withorange stripe is the big plug on top. I hope i didnt confuse you... sorry i cant explain things vary well, maybe some one else can clear this up for you. It sound like a lot of work but its not, it just sounds that way because its coming from me...lol Or guess another way to test would be to leave the conectors at the solenoid conected and leave the battery conected.....with the engine off see if you have 12 volts at the plug end of the yellow wire on the volt reg and 12 volts at the plug end of the black wire with orange stipe at the alternator

I think you need some thing like 14 volts, im not sure.
How bad was it damaged. Id still check the fuse links, cuz you might just be running off battery power

You dont open them up, you test them, if there bad you have to cut them out and solder new ones in

Can some one please explain to him how to test fuse link for his alternator and volt reg
I think i over complicated the process To the Op just remember there are two fuse links for your charging system one is for the alternator and the other is for the volt regultor

Both of these are within reason, but not the exact number you have to have or something is wrong. There's tolerances for batteries and regulators. Anything 12v and up at rest is a good battery. High 11's is still ok usually but could give you problems in an extreme cold climate, anything below that and the battery is weak. Charging system should be between 13.8v and 14.4v while running. A few tenths of a volt above and below is still acceptable. Get into the low 13's while running and I start looking for an issue, above 14.6 and the regulator is set too high. I've seen cars charge at 15.1v before and not have an issue, but I'd be worried if it was my car.
