how can i get into the 12s?
Ok so i just recently bought a 88 lx coupe that came with the e303 cam, magnaflow exhaust and a mac cold air intake. The previous owner didnt know to much about the car cause all he was told from the guy he bought it from that ot had the cam and that the motor was rebuilt 1000 miles ago. I dont even know if it has gears in the rear!!! But it will spin all through 1st 2nd and 3rd! It still has the factory headers on it. What can i look for to see if this thing has aftermarket heads or anything in general? Im mew to the 5.0 thing and any info would be great....also what does it take to get in the mid 12s?

Mid twelves...There are many options.
Stock heads, cam, intake with injectors (24#) MAF, h-pipe and 3:73s with a 100 or 125 shot. Mid to high twelves easy. Used trick flow 170cc heads, Anderson N41 cam, Holley systemax intake 3:73s and a 26 inch tire you can run mid to high elevens if you can drive. Gt40p heads, Anderson N41 cam, tmoss ported explorer intake, 4:10s slicks and a little weight reduction (take passenger seat out, jack tire and shit etc.) You should get ~12.4-13.1 depending on the driver.

Post some pics of the engine..
If the heads are aluminum, then there not stock. If the ends of the heads have 3 bars then there gt40 heads, if theres 4 bars then you have gt40p heads. As for gears... jack up the rear, mark the drive shaft, spin the tire one full turn, and count how many times the drive shaft spun. For example if the drive shaft spun a little over 3 turns then you have 3.08 if it spins 3 1/4 then you have 3.27 ect... ect...

Low 13's if you're lucky. The stock AOD will kill it without a shift kit and torque converter. If you have that already, high 12's if you can drive and hook.

Your call, just letting you know where it would stand. And yes, it would be revving at 60 with no OD and 3.73's. Don't pass a gas station, lol.

You can always just drive around in D for a while (and on the highway) and see how you like it with the AOD

T5 swap
you can hit mid 12's with that combo with a T5, sticky tires, and a good driver
