Timing trouble
Guys my cars running, I went to check the timing and now my timing mark won't show up!i did however switch to a higher quality craftsman timing light with a degree advance knob, has anyone else had this trouble?my car still starts, and if I switch the cord to the number 5 spark plug versus the number one, the timing shows up, but it's way off.

Just making sure that you are aware that the number 1 is the left front cylinder when looking from the front... If so, then maybe your balancer has spun on the rubber.

What do you mean "spun on the rubber"

The balancer is an inner hub (bolted to the crank) and an outer hub separated by a rubber ring. When the ring deteriorates the outer hub can spin relative to the inner.
+1 for this being the case. Check the rubber for wear (it is thin, 1/8th thick tops) and see if any is hanging out or flapping around. Also, see if the outer ring wobbles fore and aft. Good luck, replacement is pretty easy, get a new balancer and a puller and you're all set! I just did mie a couple months ago. Drives much smoother now!

There is a rubber band that attaches the inner to the outer. As you can see in the pic, mine was starting to let loose, but I caught it in time.

Reef- Yes indeed. It is reason numero uno why you'd be missing the mark. If yours looks like Fasts you should pick up a new one. Or ask one of us what it looks (and drives!) like when one comes off while driving. Hint: Replace it before that happens!
Fast- What? No spare laying around? lmao! I may have taken you from the dig but the pic was strong dude, I think you won. Well done! And thank you again btw. I got 'em today. You rock!

That it could. Take a good look at yours. You could put #1 on TDC of the compression stroke and check it against the pointer and balancer. If it's not on or about zero (don't forget that the piston dwells at TDC for a few degrees), then I would say your balancer has spun.

I'm helpful. Fast is just late. lmao!
No worries my friend, just check it out. If that's it and you fix it you will start it up and think the damn thing is off. I know my idle quality went up dramatically when I swapped mine! Oh, and get a Ford part. I don't think you'll need a fancy-schmancy one, but a cheapy will just lead to this dance again in the future. IMHO anyway... Good luck!
