Good time to find an explorer carrier and upgrade to 31 spline if you race it at all.

The pinion gear slipped loose and tore up the carrier. Considering I cannot use the pinion I figured I'd up my gear ratio, which is what I want for my application. And I was thinking of getting a mini spool..

+1 on the Explorer carrier. I bought one off of ebay for $65, put fresh clutches in it and some used $150 Moser 31 spline axles in my 82 Capri. Now I don't worry so much when I do 6K clutch drops with slicks!

Anyone have anything good to say about motive gears? I'd personally prefer Ford racing but I can get a good deal on motives ...

I read something semi recently about someone saying something bad about ford racing gears, but I don't remember what it was, or if it was even credible. Just an FYI, but may not be true.

I'm not sure on this, but can all the guts of your diff just be transferred over? Or are the 31 spine gears actually larger?

gears yea they interchange but, i have 5 lugs to id have to buy new 31 spline axles as well as the cost of a 31 spline carrier and spider gears inside. so the present time, it would be better for me to buy an open carrier made for 28 splines rather than buy a new carrier and 2 new axles lol

No, no, no.... the spider gears. Can't you just transfer your guts to a different, non marred carrier? Whether or not it has 31 spline or not. Just take it apart.
