My 93 LX project...

Hey guys im new to the mustang 5.0 world and really just need some help and advice. I bought this car a couple weeks ago for $600 and haven't touched a thing on the car. So i guess let me start by telling ya guys what i got to work with.

1993 LX 5.0 with 160,000 miles
Was an automatic the guy i bought it from put a 5 speed in it.
K&N cone filter.
The metal tubes and stuff that go from the smog pump all are missing becuz they rusted off.
It has an H-pipe with no cats and dynomax mufflers (that is all in bad shape and leak becuz of rust).

Thats about it for the so called mods...lol

Ok here is how she drives..... First gear is smoke show then after that she falls flat on her face when i grab 2nd.

I have a nice daily driver car, this is just my project. I want this to be a spray car like a 100 shot or maybe 150 shot and i know she is no where near ready for a 1 shot.... Can u guys please help me where should i start??

Thanks a lot guys
Brandon.

A good rebuild/bore job on your motor, a good rotating assembly (if you want to stroke it, now is the time!)...A C4/built AOD, or a nice 5/6 speed trans, gears, and a full exhaust (Long tube headers, off road h/x pipe, and a muffler to your liking! I can go on forever, but get those taken care of first.

Yeah i figured 160,000 miles was a lil to much for mods. Ok what can i leave stock on the inside? Should i just get forged pistons and bore 30 over? Is the stroker worth the extra couple hundred bucks?

Depends on what you want to do with the car. I am just now starting to mod my car and it has 190,000+ miles.

In my opinion, a stroker is worth it, in fact i am saving for a 347 kit right now...I had a guy tell me a forged crank really isnt needing unless you are 600+ HP (I think)...so yeah, forged pistons and rods would be a good idea regardless if you go with a stroker or just a .030 (306) bore job.

As far as spraying it, just get it tuned really nice, and go. Dont run the engine lean, and dont have too much timing.

The question is, what is your ultimate goal for the car? A 351 windsor isnt hard at all to drop in these cars so if you want a strip car, that is always an option.

I really just want to be different. I want to stay away from the 351 and just have fun with the 5.0 and making that fast i never really hear of anyone having a crazy fast 5.0 and im up for the challenge. Ok my goal with this mustang is to beat my daily driver...lol Its a 2005 evo8 that runs high 11s this car is to nice to be beating on and tinkering with so thats why i bought this mustang. I have been looking in summit mags for a while and i found a rebuild kit for 500 bucks and its for a 30 bore and the pistons a forged. Now for double that price i can get the 347stroker kit but the pistons arnt forged so i would have to call and see if they can do a swap or something.

http://fordstrokers.com/index.php?ta...product_id=111

This kit has forged pistons and rods, and you can specify the bore, balance, etc.

There are 347s in the 9s...but those are well built cars, not just the engine, but the finest suspension as well, then poweradders too.

The guy that owns that website above is on this site, his name is Woody (Jim) and has really good prices.

Stay clear of the summit kits Ive seen two of them around here that the keith black pistons give up the goast way to easy save up and get an eagle or scat kit. I have heard or read some where that eagle has moved the maching over seas and not quite as true as they used two be ive got an older kit in mine never had any trouble.Just my two cents

Yep, that is the same kit i am personally going with...I have spoken with woody on here and i think he is a great guy..Just got to save the money now! And i am pretty sure there are 347s in the 9s hell maybe even lower than that! just depends on how well built/power adder, suspension, etc...It can get quite expensive but people who put the RIGHT combos together will get impressive times and numbers...HP isnt everything..I have seen 400-550 HP cars run 12s...Not impressive at all if you ask me. But put the right combo together and get a good suspension and you will see some great numbers.

Give woody a call...his number is on the link. Tell him what you want to do with the car...I bet he refers you to that kit of a similar kit made by SCAT..the kit i linked up is CHP...No difference really.

The trick flow track heats heads will be good for that combo. I actually run GT40 heads, but will change that when i stoke it.

Ya a lot of people run the gt40 heads and i dont know why becuz they dynod the lowest hp numbers compared to a lot of others. Ya i need to call trick flow to because i was reading about there heads in the summit mag and they seem like a really nice piece of metal. Now for cam is bigger the way to go?

If you are going to stroke it, go with with a custom grind...They will have the most power and be made to work WELL with what you have.
