so my engines got a trickflow upper and lower intake and a cold air kit and an msd dist. and the serpintine belt and reduced pulleys...im about to put 4.30 gears into my car...
the question: should i upgrade to 31 spline axles with the 4.30 i know thats a lot of multiplied torque....i got the stock 28 in there now

Not unless you really want to or are going to be at the track launching hard on slicks. The 28 spline will hold it, just dont expect to be at the track and not break anything sometime in the future.

yea i was looking at the auburn ected electric locker but ive heard from a lot of people that they break easy...whats the difference between LSD and Posi....im lookin for a locker that will lock up real quick but not so much like a spool that i cat make a turn without it squealing the tires....i was thinking abut a detriot locker

That ected one has got a switch you can turn it on and of the limited slip works just like your factory one would when you turn a coner it will let one wheel spin faster than the other with no tire chirp, when you have it turned on it stays locked up, I ve never heard any body use one but i think you have to drill some holes for the wiring and im no fan of that my self .

Ya not only that you got to have an air supply to run it I think they use those things on a lot of 4by 4s any of them will do the job for ya, those things are really one of those things that depend on your driving habbits as to how long they last you know. If your trying to pull the wheels off the ground every time you take off look for failure sooner than if you drive on the street and just looking to make sure there is no one wheel peel durnig the smokey burnout

If you put 4 clutches in place of the factory 3, remove one of the steels, and shim it up real tight, the factory trac lok is as good as any diff out there. After a fresh rebuild it will chirp the tires when going around a corner just like a spool.

The only problem with it is you have to rebuild it after about every 3000-6000 hard miles and you have to use the friction modifier if you want it to maintain that high level of performance. After about 6k hard miles the performace starts to tail off.

I have the Moser 31 spline axles and the PowerTrax diff. It works great full lock in the straight line and unlocks for turns. I have used a couple of lockers over the years and the Powertrax is by far the quietest I have ever herd. I have only herd it click maybe 3 or 4 times in the 8 months or so I since I installed it. Some lockers I have herd sound like they are gonna come apart and some sound like a 1\2 ratchet.. Buy like you said if you have the extra money do it while it is apart. My next suggestion is to also replace the axle bearings and seals while you are at it. Dont be suprised if in a couple a months the seals start leaking.. They have been wrapped around the stock axles all these years and after stuffing bigger units in there the seals tend to fail shortly there after..

Yeah you have to tell them what size axles you will be running in the rear and make sure it is not for an open diff. they sent me the wrong one and I had to send it back.. The axles were like 240 or so and the locker was like 450. The unit goes inside where all the trac lock clutches are. You have to take all that out and put it together. Was not that hard..Ring and pinion stay in place during install..
