17x10.5 inch rims on the rear of a 95 gt

can anybody help me out with this i bought 17x10.5 inch bullit rims for the rear of my 95 gt-s and the rim sits against the shock my step dad thinks that we can just use 1/2 inch spacer and a 1/2 inch longer stud but i dont know i was also told that if i use the spacers and and longer studs it cant do burn outs or get on the car because it will break the studs im not sure i need some help......he also said if we can he wants me to use the lug nuts that go down inside the rim.....any help would be appreciated
