1982 Performance Upgrades - Fuel / Air Intake

I have a stock 1982 5.0 with 2bl carb.

How much better will it run with a 4bl intake and carb?

What manufacturer is recommended ( any dyno run comparisons)?

Or, should I focus somewhere else first?

Parts for dual exhaust are already on their way.

Thanks

I would save for a complete top end kit and a true dual exhaust if it doesn't already have one. The 82 was rated around 155-158hp I believe and the 83 jumped to 170-175hp with a 4 bbl. It is choke down too much and you need to open it up. Get the full exhaust, headers h or x pipe and high flow mufflers. Then set your sites on a complete top end kit to include heads, cam, intake, and carb. You could always find a totaled 5.0 donor car and switch everything to efi and more power. I am not sure if that year has a 7.5 or 8.8 but if it is a 7.5 which I think it is, you could also get the rear from a donor car.

Heads / Exhaust

I have a set of heads from an 87 that I picked up from craigslist. Would those have been used with a roller or flat cam?

If I combined those heads with the intake and 4bl and the right cam, I might get somewhere? What cam do you recommend?

I do already have a 262 cam, but I don't have any data on it. It is a flat cam from a 302 truck build. I could have that profiled to determine lift and duration. It has 262 stamped on the end. I don't know who made it.

My 82 has the original single exhaust with transverse cat, but I have been shopping for dual exhaust.

Some time in the future if I like this car I may invest in a set of AFR 165 aluminum heads. Right now I'm on a budget.
