Explorer heads, What years?


went to the junjyard today and they had 2 explorer's a 93 and a 94 would the heads and intakes fit on a stock 302 and most importantly do they flow better? from what year to what year are the heads any good for our cars?

The 93 and 94 Explorer came with 4.0 V6's, so I am going to have to go with a no on this question. If they have V8's they were transplanted and who knows what they have on them. 96 was the first year for the 5.0.

97 1/2 and up with 5.0s theyre in the 4 door LTs

Yeah thats the ones with gt40p's. Before that the 5.0 had regular gt40's. The p's require special headers and plugs and are good heads for stockers.

whats the hp difference between those two, didnt know you had to change headers.

Not much, the P's have a better head design, but like already said, you need a different pair of headers, short plugs, and some 90* wires are a good idea...I got a pair of GT40 heads off a 93 cobra fresh out of the machine shop with a nice valve job and new locks, springs, retainers for $450 shipped to my door.
