computer or chip
ok i am new to the 5.0 mustang thing. i have a lot of mods but nothing done to my computer. i have bbk ssi, bbk shortys, 70mm tb, 24lb injectors, stormin normin ram air intake, 73mm maf, flowmasters, 2 1/2 in pipe. elc fans, underdrive pullys, 373 gears, im gonna buy the trickflow top end kit for the heads cam and roller rockers and just sell the intake manifold. my question is should i go with a pms or just get a chip. even so where do i get a chip. im clueless when it comes to computer stuff. i was looking at the holly 950 but i dont know where to start with this stuff. i have a laptop that i can give up for my car. any help would be great...

I think with those mods you could stay with your stock computer, if its an a9l, or a9n i believe. Some ecu's are suppsed to be better than others- it'll have a sticker on it with the model... If u want a custom chip, most speed shops will burn you one, but i have gotten one from performanceresource.com and was happy with it. I have an aftermarket ecu now, but the chip was an improvement. you'll see recognizable results- don't expect phenomenal gains with a stock computer/chip though.

find a nice use PMS..plenty out there....chip aren't worth it because if you make any major changes you back to hunting down someone to reflash or burn a new one...and even if you use a dyno you still don't get REAL WORLD conditions unlike with a PMS or TWEECER RT that you can make ON THE FLY changes

I think you would have to physically look at the computer and get the 4 digit code off of it. Not sure though. You had a question mark after you said what it had. Is that because you don't know if it has been converted to MAF? 87 would be speed density unless it was converted already. By the way, there was a PMS in the for sale section if it is still there. Don't remember the details about it.
