t5 tranny grinding gears

Hey I have a 5litre 88 LX was auto, has been converted to manual with a standard T5 tranny in it. I have a rattle in the clutch pedal and when u toe it slightly it dissapears. (clutch release bearing?) also when the car is not warmed up, everytime I go to third the gears grind a bit, its not nice to hear.. after driving a while it shifts smooth. any IDEAS!? is it just because of the bearing or what.

Sounds like you got the answer to the first question. Do you know if they put ATF in the tranny. Could be gear oil that takes a while to warm up. Supposed to be ATF.

It's prolly not the throw out bearing, If the bearing was bad it would make noise when pushed in or out. It sounds like your clutch cable is out of adjustment. That is your clutch fork rattling, it rattles because there is not sufficent tension on the cable, also causing possible shifting problems.

lightly push the clutch with your foot, reach under the quadrent and try to hold the quadrent in place with your hand, then put your foot under the clutch pedal and lift it twards you, tou should hear a good click.

If the noise goes away when you push the clutch it is likely the input bearing, but I agree with Bootsy, it could be your fork rattling and I would try to adjust it before I tore it apart to replace bearings. And if thats the case that could solve the other problem also. Also it would be a grinding sound for a bearing I would think.
