1984 mustang GT-- Look here plx!

Hey fellas. Interesting story!

Ive been with my GF for about 8 months. She comes to me today and tells me she forgot about a car shes had for a couple years she needs to pick up at her old house. This intrigues me, so I naturally ask what kind of car it is:

"Oh, a 1984 mustang GT. Its got alot fo miles, around 120k though."

Oh really?

So, I find out its the carburated v-8, with the cobra body kit put on about 4 years ago. Whole thing has been painted. Only problem with the car is the 2 year old fluids, and the interior is in bad shape.

Whats this thing worth? I have no idea about the carburated early 80s models, so ive decided to ask here. Should I fix it up and sell it, or do I have something a bit mroe special on my hands? Thanks in advance.

How much will ya sell it for to me??? :wink

That is a good car. If everything is mostly rust-free and in decent/good condition, some drag racer is going to lay down some decent money for it

Body doesnt have a ding on it, and its rust free. I havent really looked at the engine, but I assume its fine. She said it needs a starter, and I dobnt know how hard it will be to find one of those (Hopefully the local auto parts store will have one)

But thats what I was assuming, some drag racer will take it for around 4k, knowing the body kit and perfect body and clear title with only 130k on it.

Its at her old house about 45 minutes from here. Im going up this weekend with my dad to see what it needs to get it up and running, so we can take it down the hill to fix up. Im kinda edging about keeping it though, because it could be a fun car. I have 2 cars already though, so I dunno how feasible that would be.

Ive seen the car in person though, and yeah, the body is perfect, along with the paint, and the nice aftermarket hood/body kit. All black.

And Turbo, what do you mean dont let what happen?

UPDATE

Got up there this weekend. After about 20 minutes of installing a new battery and doing fluid swaps, we got it up and running. Needed to push start it though, due to the starter seizing, which is better now that we got it going.

Question: I noticed the odometer reads 02198. If this is right, this thing only has 102k miles on it. I highly, HIGHLY doubt its 202k, due to my GF thinking it had around 130k on it when she bought it. Is there any way to verify this?

(Btw, there isnt really a body kit on it, only a Cobra hood and chin spoiler which, imo, makes it look mean as hell. PICS SOON!!!)

Verify the miles? You can try Carfax. If you see some reported activity above 102K, there is a good chance it is 202K.

Thats a one weird looking hood. Cowl with a scoop. 2000-3000 depending on what is wrong with it. Maybe more if it has a lot of upgrades I was planning to do anyways, like heads and cam or exhaust.

Update!

I got it home. Drove a good 40 miles after having it sit for 3 years! (Changed the fluids of course) Runs like a champ. Only one problem:

We had to push start it at first, and then the starter came to life, and it could crank. Only problem is, it takes a few seconds for the car to shut off after I turn the key to the off position. Isnt this a starter problem? The solenoid could be shot after sitting for so long, but I dunno. I dont know what else could cause something like that.

Anyone have any suggestions? Bought a new starter, but I wanna know if I need to put it on or not. Car starts fine, its just the shutting it off delay thats bothering me.
