engine reved up and kept reving

whats up guys and gals im a newbie on this forum and i had a quick question......i was driving on the freeway and i down shifted from 5th to 4th and my motor just kept reving till i shut it off, i have a 93 5 liter droptop...any ideas what of might happened? i notice the tranny mount was disconnect, would that have made the motor just keep reving....

big vacum leak? Did the throttle return while the engine was revving?

no the throttle did not return? i started it after i pulled to side and it just reved up.

Stupid question, did you check to see if the gas pedal got stuck on the floormat?

+1 I took out my driver side mat after that happened about 6 times.

no it didnt get stuck on the floor mat..........

You can't pull the pedal up by hand? If not, disconnect it from the throttle body and see if you can pull it up and push it down by hand. If you can than you need to clean your throttle body and/or check your spring. If you can't then you might need a new cable.

yea, sounds like a linkage or cruise control problem

Buy some throttle body cleaner and WD-40...spray the butterfly valve inside it.

This may be a simple fix...if that doesn't correct it, you have some deeper digging to do.

my stock throttle body got kinda sticky in the end and the carb clean and wd-40 worked great for me
