90 rear disc brake conversion
I want to do a rear disc conversion to my 1990 LX. Its already been converted to a 5 lug by the previous owner.
What components do I need to buy? any suggestions on vendors? and who sells a complete kit with rotors, calipers, pads, etc? I am assuming I need rotors, calipers, brackets, pads, backing plates and brake lines. should be a very simple conversion correct? Thanks |

I had an SSBC full 5 lug conversion with rear disc brakes at one point. I never put it on my car because I ended up selling it but I worked on a few project cars alongside the company and those brake kits were unbelieveable. My whole shop was paid for our services with kits for our cars, and everybody else puit their kits on their car and they were rediculous. you actually could stop so quickly that you had to be careful of cars behind you because you could cause them to rearend you in a hurry. The only problem that was noted was they were pretty bad in the rain but nobody really drove cars like that in bad weather anyway.

You know if you google disk brake conversion on a fox body mustang, you will get a lot of info on how to do it with sn95 parts and Mark VIII parts. Summit also has the kits for SSBC and Wildwood, and I believe FRPP has kits as well.

the kit from SSBC looks like exactly what I need, except the rotors in that kit are still a 4 lug set up??
I guess you can ask them to just swap those for 5 lug rotors with the kit? |

You have a couple of options. You can use parts from an sn95 or order a conversion kit. either way you should make sure to get an adjustable proportioning valve.
