Making your own CAI. for a fox mustang.

Has anyone done it? any pics of your setup. I was wondering if you can make your own cai for a foxbody mustang" i know the body style doest matter" could you just use manderl bends for the intake? What would be the best Inner diameter tubing for an intake?

I don't like the metal ones because they collect heat, but if you were going to do it, I would say the same size or slightly smaller than your MAF. I could be wrong, but reason being, if your MAF is smaller the velocity will drop in the tube. Its like you got a crowd of people standing outside your door trying to get thur. Its a tight fit, so you got pressure. If you got a long hallway the crowd will stay tight, but if it opens up to a huge room the crowd will get looser and reduce pressure, IMO. If its not right, revert back to sentence two. Also in my opinion (sentence two), if you are going to make one that goes to the fender well, the MAF should be before the bend.

why not just by a pre made one. in the end you will most likely have more invested into the home made one or it will look like sh it

You can buy them on ebay for 30 bucks, so the point in making one would be???

BTW the metal ones don't collect heat. I have one on my 89 and my 03 tiburon, both are cold to the touch right after driving. if they sit for awhile while the engine bay is hot, they will warm up, but not while you are driving the car.

I think what he meant is that metal will conduct heat better than other meterials.

Thanks for helping me out, I have a crappy vocabulary.

So you are saying at the track, when you are waiting for your turn, the metal ones heat up? Yeah, thats pretty much where it counts and why I said what I said. I am gonna take a wild guess that sitting at a red light it will do the same thing. They look pretty though, if you are into bling bling. Don't get me wrong, I like bling too on a dressed motor.

Pretty much as long as the car is running and there is cold outside air moving through them, they stay cool. I suppose that might mean that the heat is being transferred to the incoming air, but most of them are made of aluminum which is pretty good at reflecting heat.

When you shut the car off and let it sit they get warm. So if it is sitting awhile in between runs at the track, i guess plastic would have an advantage there.

+1 For the most part the temperature of the actual CAI really does not matter as long as cool air is moving through it.
