Project 96 3.8L - 5.0L
Hey guys,
I just wanted to say thanks for the help up to this point. I just thought I would write an update as to where my project stands. I pulled all of the 91 5.0L wiring and ECM from the car. Pulled all of the 96 3.8L engine wiring from the car. I had to piece in the ECM and the Fuel pump relays from the 91 since the 96 uses the CCRM. I had to do a couple other misc things that I cant remember 100% what they were. I had to splice in a wire to the coil wire, as well as a wire to the TFI module. I tested the wiring tonight. Basically, I am powering the starter relay from the 91, and also using the starter relay from the 96. That way I have power to the 91's ECM, and all of the exterior lighting, and interior accessories from the 96. Crossing my fingers, I turned the key and I have power to the fuel pump, as well as power to the sensor wiring from the 91. The coil had power when the car was on, but not when the car was off, which I think is correct. I did not have power to the starter wire either way, but I am hoping it is because I had not bypassed the clutch saftey switch at the time. I think I now have that disabled, but had not checked it yet. Other than that everything appears good. Now I just have to wait for the 5.0L to get done by the machine shop. Once they tell me the pieces that I will need, then the 5.0L will be getting AFR 165's, E303 cam, 1.6 roller rockers, and forged pistons. Well, I guess I just have to wait to drop the motor in. I will update everyone when I get the motor back, get it together, and drop it in. Again, thanks for the help up to this point. |

Yeah, I am horrible about not taking pictures, and then later regretting it. I will take some tomorrow of what I have done so far. Its pretty crazy stuff, but really its not to bad cause most of the wire colors are the same. So when I find where the wire goes, 90% of the time its color to color. I am just crossing my fingers that it fires up, but right now I dont see why it would not.
I have swapped a manual tranny in an auto car once before, so that part should be like old times .

I'm not trying to start the same old argument here, but if you want to get the best out of your money, ditch the letter cam.
