Racing
2 questions.
1) When racing, where would you guys shift? As close to red lining as possible? 2) Any tips on not sitting in the same spot squealing your tires for 5 mins before you actualy get to move? |

Yup its a manual, and i drive a 94 gt. Only mods are headers, straight pipe, and flowmaster.

For future reference when you get some more mods or change your setup. The way to figure out your shift point is simple if you have a few numbers. You will need your gear ratios, and your torque curve numbers. You've got a 94, so you have 3.35, 1.99,1.33,1.00,.675. Forget the .675 because you won't use it at the track. Since I am from Florida, I will make my example easy. I will use 3.0 for 1st and 2.0 for second. To find your rpm drop from one gear to the next divide the lower gear ratio by the higher. 3/2=.66 or 1/3. Say your torque is 240 at 6000 rpm and you know you will lose 1/3 of your rpm or 2000 rpm. If you know your torque at 4000 rpm is close to the same it is a good shift point. If your torque at 4000 is 200 then it is too soon to shift. If your torque at 4000 is 290 you shifted late. I'm not an expert at making up numbers and explaining them, so you can just go here and plug in your info if you really want to know. But the trick is to shift at an rpm that will give you the same torque in the next gear at that gears rpm.

Thanks, I don't know why it does that, nor how to do what you did. I'll learn though.
