burning oil???????

I recently got my oil changed, the level was up to par when I filled it. Now a few weeks later i just checked again, im nowhere close to needing another change yet however the oil is like half gone!? there are no visual leaks under the car... would I be able to tell if its burning oil? what causes that.

Maybe your motor troll Pillowpantz ate it!! LOL

If your car was burning oil like that you would see blue smoke more than likely. It could be doing it on startup and you wouldn't notice it because your in the car. Seems like an awful lot of oil though for just a couple weeks to be seals. You sure you dont have any drips anywhere?

bad rings and valve seals can cause oil consumption.if your leaking it
thats a different story check your intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, and front and rear main seals.also check your PCV valve and
PCV filter for proper function. Pull your intake hose off TB and see if its sucking excessive oil through it.

Check your lug nuts.

Ok, seriously, just change the oil again without the use of alcoholic beverages and put the right amount of oil in.

No, maybe check your pvc to see if it is stuck sucking oil out, check the oil for white milky substance, and make sure the plug is tight.

ok guys i had my oil changed by JIFFY LUBE, they showed me the oil level it was right where it should be, maybe this doesnt even make sense but my dad cant figure out why either.... nothing is leaking underneath and the coolent is fine its not a head gasket dont know hahah fuck whatever... if it happens again ill look into it further.. the oil dipstick tube is rather bent from being re-routed around the headers but the dipstick goes fully in so there isnt any problem there right?

Did you fill it up, then start it, then check the level? That PH8A oil filter can hold a decent amount of oil....

If there is really a problem, I'd guess blown head gasket or cracked block/head. Oil going to the coolant.

If it was burning that much oil, I think you'd notice, look for black soot on the body of your car by your exhaust pipes.

I think you should change your transmission, get a 5 speed instead...

lol.. no I think these guys are giving your the right idea.

If you check the oil when the car his HOT, and then wake up in the morning when its COLD and check it, ther's a HOT and COLD mark on the oil dip stick.

So if your gonna check it properly, when its HOT, make sure its HOT again then check it.

OR

Check it when its cold, drive it around, let it TOTALLY COLD down and check it again.. it should be at the same mark.

Or make sure you read the HOT and COLD mark right...

You get all the HOT and COLD, idea right?

No bashing going on. Sorry if it looked like that. Just a little joking around. Trust me I am new to this too. Just being an aeronautical engineer helps me understand the way things work. Ok so I am just a plain helicopter mech, but what the heck does an aeronautical engineer know anyways. Bootsy has a point. Maybe it just looked lower than you thought. How far below the add mark was it. The add mark is 1 quart. There are only a few places it could go. You already ruled out the leaking. The only other places it could have gone are: filled the empty filter-less than a full quart, passed the rings and out the tail pipe, passed the valve guides and out the tail pipe, thru a stuck pvc valve and out the tail pipe. For a note though, just because you have your oil changed at a shop doesn't mean it is getting done correctly (not saying they didn't). I had a guy try to tell me my pan was stripped. Said they always put a new plug in. Well after I had his manager check it out, come to find out he put the wrong plug in it, and it was screwed in passed the threads and just spinning. You never know what you are getting form those places. I hope it doesn't do it again for you.

Well since you are still learning about cars the first thing you need to learn is how to change your oil and stay as far away from quick lube places as you can.

Back when I was 16 I took my car (this was before I owned a mustang) to a "lube place". They put the oil plug on with an impact wrench... Needless to say I had to put a new oil pan on the car. They refused to fix it.
