1982 5.0 HO engine - Seems to be an Odd 302 for Parts

I'm seeing that there is something unique about the 1982 5.0 HO engine with regard to complete rebuild gasket sets. At least two major suppliers (PAW and Summit Racing) don't list my engine in the complete gasket set charts.

Is the uniqueness merely the fact that it came stock with a 2V intake or is there more to the story?

I'm converting to an Edelbrock 4V manifold anyway, but I'm curious as to what ALL the differences are?

Can someone please educate me further?

NOPE: They offered both engines (4.2 and 5.0) in 82. The GTs , which my car is (1st year back with the GT nameplate,) have the 5.0 liter HO. But it was only supplied with a 2bl carb in 82. It does have the same firing order as other HOs which is like the 351W.

Someone out there knows the answer to my question.....help!

My guess is other than the intake and carb being 2V, it is the same engine as the 83-85 HO.

But before I start ordering parts it would be nice to have that confirmed.

the 82 5.0 had the 2 piece rear main seal. it also had a flat-tappet cam, cast pistons, heads with tiny ports and small valves, and a weak thin walled block.

Well, I can install different heads, I have some off a later roller engine. However, if what you state about the block is true, I don't want to put down much more torque or HP with that block. May be better go with another year engine block.

I can probably find something else in the way of a block easy enough.

Do the 83-85 blocks have the same thin wall, as you say?

Thanks for the information.

How far forward in years does one need to go to get a stronger block?

Which years were have the same weaker block design as the 82?

86 and up are the stronger blocks. 86 has flat top pistons than can be a problem, and they have lousy heads, intake, and throttlebodies. 93-95 have hypereutectic pistons ( as opposed to forged pistons)that some people frown upon.
