Glowing Header

I just purchased a 89 gt mustang. it has a 93 stock block,e303 cam, cobra upper and lower intake, bbk cold air intake, under drive pulleys, bbk headers, new h pipe w/ cats and mac cat back exhaust. the guy I bought it from I work with he never really set the timing good on it and the car has just set with all these mods. he told me the drivers side header was getting hot. I set the timing at 10 deg btdc and the engine pops thru the intake and cyl 8 tube and collector are cherry red. I was told to set the timing where it is so I can run 87oct . I'm sure I have sure I have something screwed up any ideas? Also the car when reved seems like the throttle is sticking cause it stays reved up an dropsdown a little bit at a time but the accel comes right back. does this have to do with the before mentioned problem? I'm a certified diesel tech but gas is totally different beast and this has me stumped.

Cjeck the cats on the h-pipe...Might be clogged...That would explain some extra heat...

I would look for a vacuum leak or at the ignition timing again.

Did you remove the spout connector when you set the timing?

yes I removed the pip spout. I think I may still have it out of time maybe fireing on intake stroke instead of compresion stroke possibly but the car does run and Idles after it warms up

i would think that if it were a timing issue it would be fireing while your ehaust valve is open ignighting the fuel in the headers, what about a possible fuel problem? is there a way it could be gitting to much fuel?

Another thing to check is bring the motor up to tdc with the plug out of #1 and make sure the balancer matches. Stock balancers are notorious for slipping.

yeah I talked to a guy that runs nmra pro 5.0 turns out I didn't have enough timing. the idle was fixed at the same time so it all had to do with the timing.
