throttle body size question

I've got a stock 89 GT. I just put some shorty headers on it and now I want to put a bigger throttle body. I was wondering how big I can go and still keep it naturally aspirated at the moment. I don't want to change the injectors just yet. I plan to maybe one day get a supercharger and fuel injectors and a T/F intake. what are the problems on going too big? If anyone has a brand recomendation, let me know. Also, will I be able to use the stock intake tubing or should I get a cold air kit with the throttle body.

thanks
Mike

You'll probably want no bigger than a 65mm until you do some hefty mods. It also helps to get a better MAF housing, otherwise your precious 65mm TB is being fed by a 55mm MAF housing. You can get CAI, but don't be silly about it. It's a pipe that goes from the fender to the TB - get something cheap on ebay. Just because it says BBK doesn't mean it's better than. . .some other metal pipe. ..

Also, look into getting a 65mm EGR plate if you bump up the TB.

What other mods do you have? A throttle body upgrade is pretty much useless unless you have heads, cam, intake, MAF upgrades.

Mass Air Flow sensor. It is before your throttle body.

I just have exhaust headers with no cats and some custom h pipes. 3.73 gears in the rear but not a whole lot done. I guess if i don't have a lot of engine work done like heads, cam, intake the upgrade is kinda useless huh? maybe Ill put it off till I get a cam and intake or something.

Yeah, thats what I would do.
I'd say do H/C/I all at once. It's a tremendous amount of work to put a cam in, then put heads on 6 months later. . .. then intake.

+1 thats how I did it, cam last year, heads this spring, intake, inj. a few weeks ago, way too much time in work, I should have waited and done them all at once.

Yeah, I did a cam last year and spent about a week cleaning the heads, all the gasket surfaces, upper and lower intakes, TB, EGR, etc, etc. Then about 6 months later I bought a completely different top end from the TB to lower and heads. I hate the amount of work I wasted with that and I sure as hell am not really looking forward to diving back into my car like that again. Besides the effort, if you don't have a garage to dedicate to the effort, you have a lot of risks involved about dropping all kinds of shit into the block or oil pan, the issue of draining and recharging A/C, etc. ..

I don't know what the material in the felpro 1262 intake gasket is, but it is a bitch to clean, I've found that pb blaster is good for that. Yea in the past year I have changed my oil sooo much because of all the carp that has gotten into my engine from changing stuff. I have no AC so I'm good there, thats gotta suck though, I've never thought about that. and to top it off I found an oil leak at both the front and back of the intake to vally gasket, so off again with the intake. I did find a coolant drain plug just under the #1 cyl. that helps alot. it's a 1/4" allen head. I never knew it was there.

Thanks! That'll help a lot when I put my heads on in a couple weeks or so.
