The All-Time-Super-Budget-College-Student-Backyard-302-Fox
Ok guys. Stuff happens. I never was able to get my dream machine doing what I wanted, and the fastest I was ever able to run in my car was 14.20
Now I'm still dirt poor, STILL in college, and still find time to spend with a pretty girl. But I miss my car, and I miss you guys, and I miss working on my Fox. Nothing changed on my car since my old post back in November, except a few parts here and there for routine maintenance and keepin' the poor girl going. 1989 5.0 LX 3.73s Long-Tube Headers No S-Pump or Emissions AT ALL (No cats, don't ask me how it was passed, it just goes straight back to the Flowmasters and out the back and all i got are the o2s) Tri-Axe Shifter King Cobra Clutch Steeda Lowering Springs Underdrive Pulleys Flex Fan Advanced Timing 13 or 14 Switched to K&N Filter Assume everything on this car is stock except for those. With that setup, the fastest I could ever pull was 14.20 and the car with me in it on the scales was 3300. I weigh 150lbs. i do realize that the explorer heads would be a cheap and great addition, but I just CAN'T find the damn things anywhere. I'm always too late at the yards, and they go for more than they probably should on E-Bay. I just can NOT afford new heads. Should I self-port my stocks (I can definitely do this) and go for just a cam and Manifold? What would be the best manifold of choice? What kind of gains would I be looking at? My original goal of 300-350 was just plain stupid with stock heads. But for me, porting is free (by me and my brothers own hands) and I'd love to just mess around and see what I can do. Could anyone give me an estimate of what they think i might have behind the wheels with my current setup? THANKS! |

My magic 8-ball dynomometer tells me that right now at the wheels you probably have 190-200 hp and 250+ ft lbs.
However, it says with some home porting you could see as much as 200-210hp and 230 ft lbs. Seriously, I am sure you can find a set of GT-40P heads for less than $500. If you don't have $500 to spend, then you should be saving your money anyway. Maybe you should just start with an intake, I saw a trickflow intake for sale on stangnet the other day for $400 and a holley systemax for $350. |

port your stock heads and intake. if done right it could be worth 40 or more HP. don't bother with a cam, the stock one is not that bad. buy some slicks or at least some decent tires. remove as much weight as you can live with. my2cents
BTW, have you checked out TMoss's website? theres some good info on porting stock parts on there: http://www.tmossporting.com/ |

Look on corral.net....There are always GT40s and GT40Ps selling..
I got my GT40 heads for $450 FRESH out of the machine shop and a buddy ported them for free. Have Tmoss port your lower or get a cobra intake.
