Well that depends on how low it is below the middle. Second I would not totally rely on the stock gauge. Some work some dont. Could also be a faulty oil pressure switch..

oil press.

mines kinda on the lower side too, like they said it could be that the gauge is off or if its too low your bearings could be worn.

I have over 200,000 miles on my car and the oil pressure runs about 20 at idle and 40 when driving

those stock gauges are useless, I would certainly not base my decision on that gauge

yeah, it is worth the money to buy a mechanical gauge. At least buy a new sending unit before worrying about the pressure. My stock gauge reads on the second bar above red, but the mechanical gauge reads 45 psi.

Get a mechanical guage and check it out. I have 175k on mine and mine is about 26 at idle when hot and 45 when driving hot. Its a good chance its the stock guage or sender.

i noticed that the stang (which is now mine) has both valve cover gaskets leaking could that cause lower oil pressure?

Because you're continuously losing oil? Yes.

No. Assuming you keep enough oil in the oil pan even if its leaking out of the valve covers that will not lower your oil pressure. Once the oil reaches the top of the heads it is no longer pressurized. It is pressurized as it is forced through your bearings and the bottm of the motor. To get to the top of the head the oil comes up out of the pushrods to lube the rockers then runs back down through passages in the heads into the oil pan. So since the oil just runs back into the heads and oil pan at this point it is not pressurized, therefore if it leaks out of the valve cover instead of going back into the oil pan you will not lose pressure. The only way you would lose pressure is if so much leaks out that your oil pan starts to run dry and your oil pump can no longer pump any oil, then your pressure will drop.
