It had before? The pump shafts do twist like a pretzel, but twice? Hmm

Does it have oil pressure? If the oil pump driveshaft is broke then you won't have any oil pressure at all. If its just an issue getting oil to a head but your oil pressure is fine then you have something else going on.

Pull your shaft and check it out.

Get your head out of the gutter I am talking about the oil pump drive shaft.

I was told all i have to do is raise the engine and take the oil pan down. Question though. Do i have to take the tranny mount off? or is it just unbolt the motor mount and raise the engine with a cherry picker? Would it be possible to raise the engine with a floor jack?

i hate asking so many question cuz it makes me feel like such a newbie but i guessa i am. i was a sports compact addict till now. turning into a muscle head now lol

Thankx for the help ya'll.

Well I was thinking you could pull it out with a magnet thru the dizzy hole, but apparently not form what I can find. If you have a cherry picker I would use that. As far as the tranny mount, it should pivot on it a bit to give you enough room, but maybe someone else can say if it will be enough.

buy a heavy duty oil pump DS like from ARP they are under 20 bucks and you shouldnt twist it.check summitracing.com. you will definitely gotta raise the engine and drop the oil pump to do it since the stock shafts come with internal tooth washer type thing that centers it so you cant remove it by taking the dist. out. the heavy duty shafts dont need them

The washer on the pump shaft is used for one reason only, so if you take the distributor out, the shaft doesnt pull out of the pump and fall into the oil pan. I highly recommend you use the washer, nothing to do with centering the shaft.

These come with the washer on them already, and yes you need to drop the oil pan and pump to replace the shaft.

i would get a new oil pump, rather than messing around looking at the shaft.

Yes you can use a jack too. Put a block of wood on the front sump of the oil pan and jack away. Just be careful not to go too high and pinch something up top.

How does that work if i gotta take the oil pan off?

I was told to put block of wood on the harmonic balancer and jack it from there. Is that safe?

one thing I found interesting when I replaced an oil pickup on my 302, was a crack where the pickup tube gets bolted to the pump. I guess the muscle head before me thought the bolts werent tight enough. I can imagine a large enough crack would allow air to just get sucked into the system and would explain the loss of pressure. Check for cracks or effed up gaskets.
