MAF Conversion VSS Questions

Not sure if you guys are versed on the MAF conversion, but here is a write up.
Mustang Mass Air Conversion StangNet

The 87 harness color is not the same apparently as the 88 as in his write up. I got the whole thing done except for the VSS signals. Do you guys know what colors I need to tap into for that? Everything I have read is DG/W and O/Y wires, but this car nor the other 87 I have does not have these wires. I have two options on the VSS so If worst comes to worst, I will figure it out by trial and error, but I would rather not.

Did the car have cruise control?

90 GT 393 5 spd, 467 rwhp 480 rwtq > Sold
92 coupe, R/S 308 5 spd > Sold all engine parts off, coyote power coming soon..
93 coupe, 2.3 5 spd > still plugging along...

That's odd, when i converted mine they were right their in the open. Is that the correct connection, because their are a few in the kick panel? It might be something with cruise control as nxcoupe alluded too.

VSS install, where to splice into harness? - Ford Mustang Forums : Corral.net Mustang Forum

It looks like the color code you named is correct... well i should say it matches the info in this thread

In this thread, the guy had an 83 mustang but he swaped all the wiring from an 87 donor car from front to back.


DART 331ci stroker, AFR 185 heads,
Trick Flow R intake,
Accufab 70mm tb, 75mm pro m Maf, 30lb injectors,
jba headers, 2 1/2" x pipe
flowmaster super 10 mufflers,
255 fuel pump,
3:27 gears

Now I just wonder if I am color blind or dumb or this car is weird...

I have a total of 700 bucks into it as of now, and I have a fresh rebuilt 5.0 for it and a t5 that I need to rebuild included in that cost!

Nice! I can appreciate the budget build, I have about $1600 in mine but had to piece the motor together and rebuild myself. Make sure you have the right connector. It runs from the Trans tunnel up to the dash and either behind the radio or left kick panel. Mine was behind the radio but it's a 86.

86' notchback. Stock bore, Molly rings, crane 2040, gt40p, stock gt40 intakes, explorer tb, sn95 maf, 1 5/8 long tubes, full 3in exhaust with flowmaster 40's.

That connector with the loop in it is for the reverse lights. Vss will be a separate hrness down there. If it didnt have cruise, it wont have a vss

Well I will have to add it possibly. The car is on the rocks by my grandmas house and its too hard for my fat ass to get under it to look. But If I don't have one I think I can go ahead and add one to have that cruise work now.

Everything I have done is working...


Now to just finish the t5 rebuild, and stick the engine in the car.

I have a stereo to put in it, a new set of head lamps and tail lights are the first to be purchased after I get it running.

Got licence plates and the title for it in my name yesterday.

Get some 83-86 tail lights, that would be sweet.... or i guess the 87-93 lx tail lights. Those would be my only two choices
