1993 F-150 ( Is this a 5.0 ?)
I have the chance to get a ment 1993 F-150 for a work/beater truck. The guys says its a 5.0 liter. Is it the same 5.0 liter out of the mustang 5.0 in 1993. Isnt that called the sportsman. Like the block name. Beacuse the trucks hp rating is only 145 and the 5.0 mustang was like 205 for that year. So what is it. Some one who knows for sure plse let me know or clear this up for me. Cause i could get this 5 spd truck for like 1 grand. Also what transmission would this be?

I am not sure about the whole sportsman thing, but this is not the same engine as the stang, the 5.0 HO from a stang has the 351W firing order. so it may be the same block, but has a few different inernals.

I would ask the guy again what engine it has. The 145 hp engine is a 4.9L inline v6.

The 5.0 is rated at 185, so if he is telling you 145 its not a 5.0 its a 4.9.

could be a 5.0 that is not High Output... they did bring the hp ratings down in 1993 on the H.O.

Yeah, I don't believe its a H.O.. However I got the hp ratings from the 93 f150 specs.

Did you see the motor? Is it actually a 5.0 or a 4.9? If he said 145 hp its a 4.9.

No i havent seen the motor.. He said its a 5.0 v8 but i read a mis informing website that the 5.0 had only 145 hp but you guys showed me its 185 range. But he said its def. a 5.0 v8. But i only want it if i can get the power a stang 5.0 can get out of it.

What are you putting it in? The 93 5.0 is speed density ( I believe) and not a roller block. The H.O. has a roller cam. I am definitely not an expert on truck motors as I can barely keep up with these guys about the Mustang stuff. I would personally try to find a donor car with all the stuff I needed. A 89-92 fox body. It will have the MASS air, the H.O. motor, the forged pistons, the right tranny and so on. Not to mention more HP. I am sure you can convert the truck motor if you wanted to. Have no idea what ranny it uses. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

No it cool. I was just wanting to make a quick little truck with a throtty v8. Just for fun ya know. I was just wondering if it can happen with that block and tranny. I still cant find what tranny is even in it.

you can tell the diff. between the 4.9 and the 5.0 very easily considering that the 4.9 is a straight six...

Standard 5.0's have a different firing order, crank, pistons and heads, I believe the only similarity to a HO is the block.

HO motors were never offered in trucks.
