weak T5?
I am currently building a 83gt for road racing. I want a 5 speed, but i was told that the stock t-5 would not hold up to the 500 crank HP of my 351W. Is this true, and if it is what would be a good tranny to use? A t56?

If its a 83 t5, it is rated at 265 ft lbs. If it is a late 89 or later it is rated at 300 ft lbs. If its a Cobra t5 it is rated at 310 ft lbs. The t56 is rated at 450 ft lbs. You can get aftermarket t5's that can handle 600 hp. The tko 500 is 500 ft lb and the tko 600 is 600 ft lb.

Just a note, that G-force will be the first to tell you that their T5 kits are only good to 400 hp or so if you are using it for drag racing with slicks.

Have you had the car on track yet? Unless your a seasoned driver, thats a large amount of power for road racing. Are we talking HPDE, or W2W sanctioned body racing?
If you don't mind, I'd be interested in some details/photos of your car. I'm big into track and always disliked the mustang until I saw a 5.0 absolutely clean up. I'm interested in finding out what it would take for me to build one. |

I am not racing in sanctioned events, just at a local track so i have lot of freedom. May move up later though. I have raced an 86Gt on this track for 3years. It was all stock except suspension, but I think i can handle the power.
