Erratic gauges -'87 GT

Car is bone stock, I am in the process of restoring. Rebuilt engine and trans, body work in progress. I have owned this car since '92, gauges have always been erratic. Volt and Water temp seem OK, oil pressure and especially fuel gauge always erratic. New to this forum, tried posting this question last night but I don't see it yet. Probably been working on cars longer than most of you guys have been alive, but getting too old for blind trial and error. Seems to be a lot knowledgeable and helpful folks on this site. Any suggestions?

Are you sure the gauges are good? Are they the original ones?

Check the ground for the gages, but I would suspect the Anti-Slosh Module is bad if they are both doing it. Still could be the gages or sending unit, but the module would be my first guess.

Sorry, and welcome to the site!

Thanks for the info, but what the heck is an anti slosh module.

Its a little cumputer board looking thing on the back of your instrument panel. It controls the voltage for your gages I believe. It is about 2"x2" square.

Found this thread form another forum. One of the posts tells you how to test the circuits to see if its a gage, sender, or slosh module.

Great info, thanks! Sounds like you have saved me a lot of work and heartache. Will have the dash out within the next few weeks to replace the heater core, will perform these tests and let you know.
Thanks again,
Terry
