big time tapping

i just got done rebuilding the top end of my 94 gt. everything went pretty smoothly. on the advice from a friend, i filled up with 89 octane instead of 93(which i've been running for years). now i dont know if this is a coincident or not but now i hear a loud rapping noise from under my left valve cover....i know the type of gas wont affect my lifters, but if anyone has any ideas, i would like to hear them....thx

You sure its coming from under your valve cover? Check to make sure your Header gasket isnt leaking. I had that problem when I did mine and thought oh man what have I done! lol Check that first!

Have you tried putting 93 back in the car? If so did it go away?

It would be alot easier if there was a sound clip...

Copper gaskets can leak if not properly tightened. They will also leak if they do not match the header or head. Make sure that you have square port gaskets and headers to match your heads.

Some other things to look for...

Did you use adjustable rockers or bolt downs? If adj, then re-adj. If bolt down rockers were used, then you may have a lifter or two not pumping up oil to the rockers. Its hard to tell without being there to hear it. Usually when I here tapping, I know to shut my engine off. At 8k rpms, anything and everything can break. Also if you are using adj rockers, make sure one isnt rubbing on the valve cover baffle on that side.

If it was me, I would take that valve cover off and look for anything obvious. If you don't see anything obvious, start the car up with the valve cover off to see something then...just my two sense.
