5.0 vs toyota

i work at a toyota dealership and the shop foreman and his little brother think that they can out run me. i've got an 89gt with the listed mods below and they are both stock... the younger one has(and when he told me this i LMFAO) 07 camry with wht is suppose to have a "bad ass" v6 engine in it which is a very nice luxury car, and big brother has one of those 2door tundra's which is pretty nice i must say its one of those tro off road trucks, its an 07 also, say's he's got about 400ftlbs of torque which i dont doubt...
another guy tht works theire tht has the same camry claims to have pulled on a mach1 by about 3cars. mind u tht they say this camry has about 260 hp, (thts less than a 00gt stock.) and tht he has raced a 5.0 and supposedly beat him pretty bad... yeh right..
what do any of u guys think about this

3500 pounds is insanely heavy, plus they have narrow powerbands. any idea what they run in the 1/4 mile? i'm betting 16 seconds at best

Actually, the 2000 Gt has 260 hp and the Camry has 268 like Ragtop said. Although, the Camry SE has a 7 sec 0-60 time, and the LE is even slower. They have like the worst ratings for performance I have seen. You got them beat in the 1/8th or 1/4.

Those Tundra's have 381 horsepower, and will run 0-60 times in the high 7 second range. Quick for a truck. The Camry might be fast, but it's a....Camry. Bleh.

I don't know about the camry, but there was a new 07 altima at the track running low 14s with the new paper plate on it.

Personally, they're the only ones with something to brag about if they won. They beat a modded Mustang (even if just slightly) and get to brag to their friends. Now imagine how it'd be if you told us that you beat a "Camry" or a "Tundra". If you tried bragging about that to me I'd just be laughing about it. It's nothing special. Ferrari or something, then that's a different story.

What would you get to gain from this by beating either of them? Not as much as they would. I wouldn't even be wasting my gas TRYING to race them.

Actually 3500lbs is not "insanly heavy" like you said. My 93 notch weighs 2850 without me in it, but it is stripped and has a K-Member. Dont stock GT's weigh 3500lbs or close to that.. Now 3800lbs and up is heavy but I would not say 3500lbs is heavy..

vert automatic fox GTs don't even weigh 3500lbs. heavy is a relative term but in the world of high performance cars 3500 is extremely heavy. FYI, a stock fully optioned 5-speed fox GT weighs around 3250...mine weighs considerably less.

actually i was abit pessimistic...

"Here are the factory published curb weights (loaded with fuel and fluids but no people or cargo) from the MVMA specs:

LX coupe 5-speed 3010
LX Hatch 5-speed 3069
GT Hatch 5-speed 3144
LX convertible 5-speed 3231
GT convertible 5-speed 3365

LX coupe AOD 3076
LX Hatch AOD 3135
GT Hatch AOD 3210
LX convertible AOD 3297
GT convertible AOD 3431

These are the base weights for each model. Add to them the following options weights accordingly:

A/C 40
power locks 6
power windows 6
AM/FM Cassette 2
Premium Sound 5
Radio Delete -9"

Best feedback I saw:

If you work at a Toyota dealership couldn't you get authorized to test drive one of these BEASTS (sarcasm)? Really though... Know your enemy. Take one out for a cruise and get a feel for it. The new Camry isn't fast by any means, but judging by the responses here I'm willing to bet there are quite a few mustang owners out there that might get their feelings hurt against the camry.

The days of the 100hp economy car are gone. To even see a post "Will my 5.0 Mustang beat this V6 Camry" means Toyota must be doing SOMETHING right.

But then again, quotes like this hold some value as well:

And the numbers I'm about to rattle off could be a bit off because different sources say different things, and I'm just using the internet as a source but... both of these sets of numbers were taken from www.msn.com (where you got that 15.05 1/4 time for the Camry)

1988 Ford Mustang GT convertible (manual)
4.9L 225 hp V8
Curb Weight: 3329 lbs.

2007 Toyota Camry LE V6 (automatic)
3.5L 268 hp V6
Curb Weight: 3461 lbs.

I understand that the Camry listed is an automatic, but the V6 doesn't get mated to a manual tranny in 07'...

So you're saying that your 88 Mustang with all stock parts and slipping clutch can beat a car with 40 more horses, similar weight, that just rolled off of the factory line? You do have the manual tranny going for you, but that's about it. I'm no Mustang expert, but you had better be a driving mofo to take that camry in the quarter.[/b]
