Why stop with a 75? Hell, why start with a 50?

What year 302?

I am thinking about 220 or so to the wheels prob a little less. Stock 5.0's depending on year vary I think 10-15hp at the flywheel. RWHP I would say is about 160-170hp for a stock 5.0.

Depending on year, about 225hp and 295ft lbs of torque at flywheel. If you have a stick, you lose about 15% to the wheels and if Automatic, you lose 20% to wheels. As far as the 75 dry shot, I cant see where it would hurt anything. I had a friend who ran a completely stock 5.0 mustang w 250 shot of nitrous for a whole race season and blew it up in the last race of the year. It was also a wet system though.

I would guess around 300 hp at wheels.

Nitrous can be a very easy and fun way to add extra ponies for a small initial cost. The problem with people blowing their shit up with nitrous is the fact that it is much cheaper and easy to install then say a supercharger or turbo. Because of this you have more idiots out there with $600 laying around that say, "Lets go throw a 300 hp nitrous kit on my cavalier" and wam bam thank you ma'am they blow their shit sky high. If you do some research about nitrous and get a nice kit and get the safety devices that help keep your motor together then nitrous is just as safe as a supercharger or turbocharger.

The other problem with nitrous is filling the bottle. Nitrous in most area's goes for about $4 a pound. With a 10 lb bottle which is what most kits come with thats $40 everytime you fill the bottle. Depending on how often you spray this can get costly. I would say with a full 10 lb bottle you will probably get 8-10 1/4 mile passes.

Make sure that whatever kit you get, you also get a fuel pressure safety switch, a wide open throttle switch and a window switch. A bottle heater helps with pressure but is not necessary. Also depending on how big of a shot you run, you will probably want to go 1 or 2 ranges colder on your plugs to help get rid of some of that CC heat. If you do these things you can spray a 150 shot of nitrous on your car for a few years. Anything above a 150 shot and I have heard you start to mash the ring landings and then your rings will stop sealing and you will lose compression and start burning oil. Hopefully this helps and will answer some of your questions about nitrous being unsafe. Nitrous can be safe, its the idiots that use it and don't know about it that are unsafe.

Another note I just thought of is as you read posts look at how many people you see have trouble blowing head gaskets with superchargers or turbochargers. You almost never see a post about somebody blowing a head gasket with nitrous. I am not 100% on the reason for this but I have some theories. #1 most important is with nitrous your motor is not seeing that added horsepower all the time. With a supercharger or turbocharger it is readily available and causes people to drive that car harder puting more strain on the motor. With nitrous everytime you spray its costing you money so that tends to help most people be more conservative with it I think.

Theory #2 is that with boost your actually cramming or forcing compressed air into your cylinder which over time can push out gaskets and cause sealing issues. With nitrous its just a gas that has a higher oxygen content than the atmosphere air but it is not being forced into the cylinder, just fed to it. I think that between these 2 ideas that is why you hardly see any nitrous cars have head gasket issues like you do with turbocharger and supercharger cars. Good Luck

a 500 hp shot of N2O uses 3 lbs in 10 seconds

a 75 shot uses about .5 lbs in 10 seconds

jetted for 75 hp you should get close to 17-20 passes out of a full bottle (with a bottle heater).

ex: my buddy just filled his bottle after about 15 passes jetted for 125 and he had about 2lbs left in the bottle.
