347 for 2k?

I found a 347 stroker for $2k, it is in a local machine shop. It was dropped of for machine work and assembly and never picked up. It has been there 1 year. I am definitely buying it.

It has forged flat top pistons. a roller cam with 286 duration/542 lift. trick flow heads with 2.02/160 valves fully ported and polished, 1.6 aluminum roller rockers, guide plates. An edelbrock torker 2 intake, a 7qrt oil pan.

The machinist said it was a king cobra mexican block. It is 4 bolt main. I have never heard of a mexican block, is this a real block?

How much power could I expect from this engine? will it hold together? I know it was built right, my machinist does good work.

That sounds like a great deal, I would definitely go for it! I would expect somewhere around 350RWHP with that set up... With the right exhaust, that baby will sound nice with that cam and the cubes!

As far as the mexican block goes....I am not sure what the difference in the engine is...My guess is they just pulled it out of a mexican version ford. I have seen explorers and what not classified as mexican version, which i assumed meant it was just sold in mexico. i could be wrong on all of this, but i dont think it would make a difference in the block, you should be good to go! buy that puppy!

The Mexican blocks have a higher/stronger metal content which in turn makes them a bit stronger than a U.S. manufactured block. Still made the same, just more nickle in the metal. Also, the main caps are beefier which will hold more power on the bottom. Those are the only differences. A popular technique to make the bottom stronger is to find Mexican main caps. Although, the stock mexican caps were not 4 bolts. This must have been done by a previous machine shop and make things better yet. You have found a good deal and I would do it.
With that cam, and the fact its a roller, you will get close to 400 RWHP, as I have had close to the same set up and dyno'd at 402...and that was with a non-roller, flat tappet cam.

Its my current project and I just finished putting a 347 in it. I almost got rid of it 5 years ago, but decided it was a nice example of an early ford product! Also, it is still numbers matchung block, trans, paint, interior, etc. I actually found the vin # on the 289 and the T-10 match the car. Very rare to see that these days. Thanks for the comment and I really dig your Fastback. I wish I still had mine but I sold 3 of them 10 years ago. Who knew the prices would do this?!!!!
Kicking myself in the arss now!

That HP estimate also really depends on what the compression on the motor is? Do U know?

no idea sold it already though, for twice what I paid for it. It is making 427 RWHP in the ranger it now calls home.

The thing is fast as hell too. I was scared the first time I rode in it. It has no traction at all.

yeah they really are fun. I have a ranger with a turbo 2.3. It has about 300 rwhp and it is a lot of fun. I have all upper rpm power. which makes it more controllable til about 4grand. where it really comrs alive.
