What size TB should I use?
I'm going with a GT-40 top end. GT-40p heads, Explorer intake etc. What would be the best size TB to use? 65mm, 68mm, 70, 73 etc.
Thanks |

I would go with a 75mm if you still plan on upgrading in the future....

For you r combo I wouldn't go too big. (70 max) TB has to be sized right for the car and your mods, or you can end up having performance problems.

use the explorer one. its 65mm and its cheap. just cut off the plate that the throttle cable connects to and tack weld on the one from your car.

is there a problem if you go too big? i mean within reason, you obviously wouldn't put a 80mm on a stock setup but would 70 be too big on a stock setup?

Downfall of TB being too wide: Potential for more air, but you're getting less velocity.
Basically, if you have a huge opening and you're on a stock motor (or a motor not setup for it), the opening will not be able to actually efficiently suck the air into the motor. Using a smaller diameter TB, the air is forced through a smaller opening and the revese pressure creates a vaacuum in the manifold. It allows the air to move through the intake manifold quicker and more efficiently. Same reason you don't run 5" exhaust from the headers-back |
