this may sound stupid, but i hear of a lot of people buying MSD ignition systems, but i do not really understand what they do! Do these ignition systems add to the cars performance???? I really do not know, so if somebody could explain to me, in detail, about what ignition sytems do, i would really appreciate it!!!! Thanks

On a stock Mustang you won't notice any gain. I wouldn't ever change the stock distributor. There are guys running 9s (maybe even faster now) with the factory Ford TFI distributor. When you start adding horsepower or power adders then it will be time to upgrade to an MSD ignition box.

Darrell's right. A stock TFI system will easily provide as good a spark as most MSD's anyday. The benefit of the MSD comes into play when you have enough mods to warrant a two-step, a timing retard module, or a rev limiter to keep everything together. Can you say "nitrous"?

Or if your car is still running the old duraspark box from 1975
Personally I like Mallory better though.
