Almost dead AOD... how do I bring it back to life?

Well, my AOD is halfway gone. In D it only goes up to 2nd gear, and in O/D it's like its in neutral.

I heard a pretty good bang when it went out, and I'm thinking (and hoping) it was just the direct input shaft. First and second still feel the same. It's a bone stock AOD.

Anyone else have this happen? Ideas anyone?

Are you planning on rebuilding it yourself?

I am still debating on whether or not to get a built AOD-E and Baumann TCS, or take the plunge to get new clutches, steels, servo, bands, etc for the current AOD.

Either, way, I'd like to do it myself.

To just get it operational, how hard would it be to replace the input shaft (besides the obvious of taking the tranny out of the car and popping off the torque converter)?

that is about the only way to replace it. It seems to me that the direct input shaft could be the culprit.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me. I had know clue what to do at that point and just thought the transmission was done for, and I also wanted a manual so I switched it over to a manual and still have the old tranny. I would love to hear what u find out to do about it, cuz i could fix it and put it use.
