Headgasket time. Woohoo!!! Few questions with SD
Well I think my headgaskets are shot and about to go compression test and if so, start tearing into it. The oil is lookin a lil brown and higher than the level it was after oil change that was just done. And today, the car was sputtering the whole way home if I gave it too much gas.
One question I'm wondering about is that it smells so freakin rich that it was burning my eyes on the way home with the windows down. Seems like too much fuel or not enough spark. Just changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and swapped out the leaking coil from my other car. Headgasket wouldn't be making it run rich would it? Maybe water isn't allowing it to fire off? Figured maybe a bad fuel pressure regulator but not thinkin it has one. Hmmm..... Anywho, it's speed density and I realize there's not many mods that can be done. Are there any good things I can do while the heads are off though for a lil more power? Porting the heads wouldn't be a good idea with SD would it? Not sure how far the SD setup can go before things get bad and no wideband....just yet. Thanks. |

Sounds like leaky injector seals, and with sd all you have to worry about is choice of a cam

It's been smelling rich from the exhaust here lately but today was extra rich. I didn't even bother checking compression cause the oil to me is a give-a-way. So I'm about done pulling the heads. I see there's indeed a fpr on it.
I kinda have a hard time believing that the only problem ya have to worry about is a choice of cam since SD doesn't read air like a Mass system does. Anyone wanna give a 2nd opinion on that please? Not really trying to put too much money into this motor though cause I have a 351w that I plan on building. Just want a bit more power for the time being though. |

You don't think it has an FPR?
Mine failed and was sucking a lot of fuel through the vacuum line. My oil level went up well over a quart and came out like black water when I changed it. I think all of the carbon and sludge is gone now though

I know it has an fpr after pulling it all apart (dunno why I was even thinkin it wouldn't have one).
Anywho, the headgaskets were definately leaking. The whole underside of the intake manifold was all nasty slimey gew. |
