Motor Mount install on 90lx coupe.
Hey fellas what up!! Got a question. I have a 1990 lx coupe (auto) Long story short, I put on a 75mm throttle body and come to find out my hood will not close beccause of the clearance from the top of the throttle body. I found out that I have after market solid motor mounts which is pushing the motor up a bit. I bought the stock replacements and am anxious to put them in to lower the motor a bit to close my hood. How hard on a scale of 1-10 is this? The other question is, I have a flaming river rack in the car and im told that this is adjustable, because of the header clearance once I lower the motor. Is this true? If so, does that mean it is adjustable like side to side?? Oh, I do not have a plenum spacer for my TF upper and lower.
Thank you for any tips and or advice on this. |

I can't really help you on the motor mounts, when we did mine we were pulling the engine anyways so we disconnected everything. If you can lift the engine enough without disconnecting stuff it would be pretty easy.
I also have a flaming river manual steering rack and there isn't any adjustment to raise/lower the rack or steering shaft. The only adjustment is the length of the steering shaft, and that wouldn't affect header clearance. I can take a closer look, but with aftermarket shorty headers, I don't think the steering shaft is even close to touching the rack.

Thanks for the reply. I will be keeping the engine in place or atleast lifting it with a jack, I figure I would put a phone book between the jack and the engine for padding. The only way to get see is if I get in there and do it. Here goes nothing! I will try today and keep you posted. Thanks again.

You are going to have to lift the engine at least a couple inches to replace the motor mounts. I don't think it will be possible to do it with a floor jack, and it if is, I doubt the oil pan would take the weight of the engine. You may want to do a little more research before you try it, seems risky to me. An engine hoist would be the way to go.

I would love to buy the hood but being in Hawaii we cant find any and shipping is like $200.00 and the hood I want 1 1/2 is like $200.00 to $250.00. I really dont want all the vibration either. Thanks though, I will let you all know how it came out.
