8.8 axle/carrier question
If I upgrade to 31 spline axles on a rear from an 88 LX could I just swap out the spider gears for a 31 spline locker and keep the stock carrier? Trying to avoid having to reset the gears. Thanks!

hmm I don't know if that will work..
when you take out the stock 28spline diff it's going to move the ring and pinion around a tad anyway. I would just reset the gears.

yes, it's possible but you'll have to find the 31spline spider gear kit for the small carrier. As for resetting the gears, you won't have to do anything to do. just make sure you keep the shims on the same side they came out of.

Thanks for all of the help. The shops around here charge a fortune to set gears and I can install a locker without having to pull the carrier out. I'm going to give it a shot and I'll let everyone know how it goes (It'll be a while...gotta save my pennies for a locker!)
