Will 4.10's mess up speedo?
Hello. I have a 88 5.0 notch that I bought not too long ago. It was a swap car so i put the 5.0 speedometer in it. I also had the speedometer gears replaced. It still seems not to read the correct speeds and is like 10 to 20 mph off. I was wondering if it is possible that the previous owner put new motive gears which caused the speedometer to be offset. It is just a theory because he put a lot of work in the car so why not put gears. It also kicks slightly when shifting at low rpm, and my mechanic told me the engine and trans are practically new. What could solve my speedo issue? thanks

They will if you do not have the right gear for the speedo, and tire size can through your mph off a little bit.And is it a 5 speed or an aod.Do you know what year the engine and trans is?

I put a 23 tooth speedometer gear in my aod and it was also an easy swap. I have 4:10's in the rear. Just take out the bolt for the speed sensor and pull it out of the transmission. I had to replace my cable too (twice actually) b/c the headers kept melting them. I got it re-routed and seems ok now. My speedometer used to jump around and all that but now it is smooth.
