Leaking output shaft seal.

I have a 93 5.0 Mustang with the T5. I picked up a new seal for the back of the transmission since mine is leaking. When I got the seal I noticed there was also a kit available with the seal and a mushing. Is it necessary to change the bushing as well? I was thinking of swapping to the Ford aluminum driveshaft at the same time since I have to pull the driveshaft to change the seal.

I know the fluid required for the T5 is the Dex/Merc 3 ATF. When I was at my local Autozone the only ones they had in stock were the Valvoline Max Life for transmissions over 75,000 miles. My transmission has 119,000 on it and was thinking this fluid may be better to use than just regular Dex/Merc 3. What do you think? Would the extra additives be ok to use in the T5? Or is even necessary since it is a manual and not a automatic which the additives are for. Thanks.

The bushing is not a bad idea to change out but is it required, probably not. There is a tool that any transmission shop will have where you can extract the bushing from the rear of the tailshaft. Without this tool you will need to pull the tranny and remove the tailshaft from the rest of the tranny to get it out and put the new one in.

For the fluid I would probably just roll with standard Dex/Merc 3 ATF fluid. I doubt the high mileage stuff would hurt anything since all the fluid does in a manual is lubricate everything but ya never know.
