underdrive pullies


i need some help getting the alt. pullie off. any tips would be great.

Very carefully Find some way to keep the pulley from turning so you can loosen the center nut.

Gotta use an impact, either that or try loosening the pulley with the belt still on.

Yep, use an impact and it will be a walk in the park.

ya i figured i would have to use an impact. just hoped i wouldnt have to resort to that.

If you don't plan on keeping the pulley in exchange for another then you can use a large pair of channel locks to hold in place if an impact is not available. I personnally would opt for the impact its alot easier than trying to hillbilly mechanic it.

The only problem with that is you usually can't get enough force to break the nut loose from the shaft and the shaft will just spin. An alternator that is fairly new or is on a car that doesn't see much moisture or road salt probably won't be a problem but anything that sees mother nature at her worst you can forget about. Up by me there is so much damn road salt still floating around even in the spring everything corrodes.

I would recommend just using the impact and putting your old pulleys somewhere in a closet or something...They might come in handy sometime...
