running hot

ok 85 gt 5.0, just replaced thermostat, got car running again, overheated, so i replaced radiator cap, ran good again, went to run errands tonight, and started to run hot i could watch the temp gauge rise from "OR" to "MA" on the temp gauge "
NORMAL is it true that the factory gauges only tell you if it's running cold or hot, but not in the middle, and if you squeeze the lower hose and there is pressure or you can feel fluid, the water pump works, Right????
and if you feel the same thing in the upper hose the thermostat is opening, yeah?

Any help would be great, ????

Did the gauge go past normal? I wouldn't worry about it being hot until it is past normal. What was the temp on the thermostat you pulled out? What was the new one?

i have no fan clutch, and no idea what the ther temp i pulled out was, but i replaced it with the only one available at the time a 195, but in az that is the only temp anyone is selling, and the only reason i know this, is i work for one of these "auto parts superstores" ..... it's no shop but gets me through the day...

Get a low temp thermostat (160-180) and a hi-flow waterpump. Both can be had for under $100 and should fix your cooling issues if you are all stock. If you have a handfull of mods you might want to think about an aluminum radiator.

try blowing out your radiator and condensor assy. . Like me, your in a high dust area and it collects very well in the radiator fins.

Good point, I've seen A/C condensors packed full of bugs before which can surely restrict airflow.
