FIRST TIME AT TRACK, NOW TRANNY PROBLEMS.

I ran my car for the first time at the track it ran a 14.2, on the drive bakc down the strip i started hearing some clanging goin on from the shifter area. car still shifts fine, clutch seems to grab fine, just hearing sort of a grinding noise while moving, even in neutral. When I hit a high rpm from any gear i hear a rattling noise. anyone have any clue as to what it may be. could that be a throwout bearing, or the flywheel?

How did you launch?

EDIT: For that matter, how did you shift?

Wouldn't the driveshaft continually make a rattling sound not just at high RPM. As far as launching I tached at about 1500 and dumped it, and shifted at about 5500.

I was having the same problem. I had a bad bearing in my tranny. It is not to expensive to repair but can be a pain in the arse.

I lucked out and my buddy has a spare t-5 but it came outta the 2.3. He said I'll need to use my bellhousing, a new pilot bearing and it should bolt right up. Sound about right? BTW he's givin it to me for $100 incuding an A/C condensor

Is there any chance that a tranny problem would cause a car to "pop" from the exhaust while in 3rd gear at 2500 rpm? Please say yes, I don't need motor problems

if you are hearing a rattling noise at high rpms it might be a bearing.. how many miles are on the car. and how hard did u launch.. and what rpms are u shifting at
