fuel pressure gauge

I noticed that some stangs have a gauge that is tied into the fuel gauge. not the kind you have to hook up every time but one that stays under the hood all the time. Does any one know where I can find one of those? and what there called.

UPDATE: I think I found one from steeda

The one you linked to even has the adapter so you do not have to remove the schrader valve. That is the type you are looking for.

cool. I am saving up for mods but what psi should I be running for a stock engine? 35-39 psi?

38-40 is the stock pressure, there are very few reasons that anyone should change that more then a few pounds either direction, even when modded. The advantage of having a gauge you can see while driving is for monitoring fuel pressure under load. Having one in the engine compartment or attaching a temp one is great for setting the base fuel pressure but not much more. If you are on a budget, I'd wait until you are much further with your mods before getting one in the car.

I was going to use it for diagnostics. If I drive my car on the freeway for a while (around an hour) and if its real hot out when I come to a stop it dies on me and I have to let it cool down. I replaced the ignition module and it still did the same thing.

So I thought the gague would help me see if it was a fuel pump issuse or an ignition problem.

Do you know how much psi it should push when you turn the key but w/o starting the engine?

It should jump up to or very close to normal after the initial key-on cycle of the pump, at least mine does. I'd wait for a second opinion from someone else on that though.

Normally, it should be 38-40 when you hit the switch even without starting the car.

If u have an adj fuel pressure regulator u are supposed to set it to 39.5 psi with the vacuum hose disconnected.

88 stang vert

hey buddy i know its 3 years after but i was just googling some issues with my car and i came up with your thread and seems like u had the same issues as i do. My car on hot summer days would stall like your car does and when it cools down it would start backup. I changed fuel filter, distributor module, fuel pump. I did not change anything related to ignition as such ignition coil and ignition control module. I talked to my mechanic and he said chek with the fuel pressure gauge that the fuel is firing properly but i replaced the fuel pump 2 years back i will buy gauge to check that but i m pretty sure now its related to ignition. Did you get yours fixed? and if did what was it? thoughts? thanks.

step 1) check for any codes you might have, it could be numerous things, including the magnetic pickup inside the distributor, i had mine go out a few months after buying a napa reman dizzy

^This

I think it was the pickup coil in the distributor. I put in a reman dist and it has not failed me yet.
