Stupid question but need to ask

Ok I feel like a retard for asking this but I need to know. Does a 95 5 speed tranny have its own fluid or is it shared with the engine oil. I cant find the dip stick for the tranny.

you prob won't. if it is a standard tranny there isn't one. if it is a T-5 there are two plugs on the passenger side. the upper being the fill and inspection plug and the lower being the drain. they can be removed with a 3/8's ratchet. and if it is a T-5 it holds 3qts. of ATF dexron III.

The only stupid question is a question not asked. Its better to ask a question and get the right information than it is to not know and wreck something. So don't feel bad for asking. There is no dipstick on a manual transmission. There are 2 plugs in the driver side of the transmission. The lower plug is a drain plug and the upper plug is the fill/sight plug. The fluid should be at the bottom of the plug hole on the upper plug.

Yes it is a t-5. Will any automatic fluid work? any recommendations on quality fluid?

No, they use ATF. There isn't much out there that uses gear lube any more. Some chrysler manual transmissions use 5w30 oil.

mine were, they were located in the main tranny housing, i found the easyest way to fill it. was to remove the shifter basle and run a piece of fuel line through the floorboard down into the tranny. and hook the hose up to a bottle and squeez it in from the cab.

yeah you can fill through the shifter boot opening unlike the 05+ stangs, which is a great time to swap out the shifter if you can afford it! sometimes when in a time pinch i use a gear oil bottle, clean ofcourse, with some tubing on the end to pressure fill it from under the vehicle, there is some leftover but saves time.
