Weird Acceleration Problem

Basically, I will only have this problem with I mash on the accelerator or shift hard.

I'll jump on it, and it will accelerate slowly but the engine will get high in RPM's. All of a sudden, the engine will go back down in RPM's and I'll begin to accelate fast, like it used to. Most of the time, the engine will then smell like it was overheating.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
