Idle question
Ok I know that its not a mustang but I cant seem to find anywhere on thunderbird board to get much for answers. My Thunderbird is at least the HO 5.0 so here goes the questions. Hope you guys can help.
We have recently had a problem with our 92 Ford Thunderbird 5.0 V-8. On my wife’s way home the car began idling between 2300 – 2800. She got the car home, and my first thoughts were a vacuum leak. I used a can of carb cleaner and sprayed liberally all over vacuum lines, intake and the manifold, throttle body etc. I found nothing. I noticed that the exhaust manifolds were turning cherry red with in 3 – 5 min’s. Which again could be due to a lean situation due to un-metered air . Since I found no vacuum leak, I am beginning to think that maybe the timing had jumped. My next question is checking timing. Where is the spout in connector? How many wires, and where does it go....both directions....does it go to the distributor? If anyone has any suggestions please help me out with this. Thanks, ~Rich |

Well I did find the plug. but since the idle is so high I cant set anything. I did put the light on it and it looks like its about 15deg. But with the idle up I cant go by that.
Does anybody have any ideas? I have disconcted the battery to clear code and hope that I can find a way to check it for any new codes. Does anyone know how to check the codes? Thanks, ~Rich |

Here it says how to check the code on the mustangs, which should be the same for mine. Not very easy to follow though. I am looking into the IAC tomorrow just not sure if that would explain for the cherry red manifolds. ~Rich |
