I have heard that the explorer has one of the best stock intakes but I am not sure if it will fit from the 4.6 to the 5.0 I don't think it will.

The Explorer/Mountaineer intake is a mirror image of the Cobra intake.

They are not exactly the same. you need to drill and tap a hole for the air temp sensor. The runners are also longer, and the intake comes really close to the hood. Keep your Edlebrock.

the explorer motors come with gt40, and gt40p heads, the intake is a redesign of the ford cobra lower, with slightly longer intake runners to improve lowend torque. The overall diameter of the runners is better than a stock mustang intake, and they flow better than a stock mustang intake, making it an ideal "cheap" upgrade.

i have ported GT40 heads, ported cobra lower and stock explorer upper...With a few other mods, i am probably pushing 260+ RWHP through an AOD.

The lower intake and heads are two of the biggest bottlenecks on these cars...Get some gt40 heads (ported and a good valve job would be ideal), get a cobra or explorer lower and get it ported...TMOSS does great work..you can find him on corral.net very easy and does great work relatively cheap...

It is indeed a nice budget build...
